"1981 : Je suis abonné à Reporter-Objectif un magazine photo mensuel. On y explique comment devenir correspondant de guerre au milieu d'un tas de conseils pratiques forts utiles tels que : choisir le bon sac, le bon appareil, les bonnes chaussures... Le conflit le plus abordable selon eux, le moins cher pour les apprentis photographes comme moi, est l'Irlande du Nord. Il faut prendre le bus à la Madeleine le soir vers 22h puis un bateau à Calais en pleine nuit, un train pour Londres où l'on change de gare pour un autre train direction Stranraër au nord de Liverpool, et enfin le ferry pour Larne avant un dernier bus pour Belfast." Ainsi début l'histoire ténue entre un photographe et un peuple, qui au fil des années va expérimenter la sclérose du conflit nord-Irlandais qui a débuté à la fin des années 1960. Quarante ans de photographies tissent ici la trame de fond de l'histoire que nous conte le photographe, démarrant à la mort de Bobby Sands, et s'achevant à la veille du Brexit.

You have to take a bus at the Madeleine around 10 pm, then take the boat in Calais in the middle of the night, a train to London where you switch train station and train to Stranraër north of Liverpool, and finally a ferry to Larne before a last bus to Belfast. » So starts the fine relationship between a photographer and a population, that year after year will experience The Troubles, started in the late 1960’s. Forty years of photography spin the backstory as told by the photographer, starting with Barry Sands’ death and ending at the eve of the Brexit.
