Son of underground comic legend Vaughn Bodé, Mark Bodé is a cartoonist whose work bridges comics, graffiti, and tattoo art. After Vaughn's death in 1975, Mark—then only twelve—dedicated himself to continuing his father’s legacy. He studied illustration in California, animation in San Francisco, and graduated from New York’s School of Visual Arts in 1982.
Mark began early, completing and colorizing Zooks for Heavy Metal Magazine at fifteen. In 1984, he revived Cobalt 60with Larry Todd for Epic Illustrated. He later created Miami Mice (1986) and Gyro Force (1987), then collaborated with TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman at Mirage Studios from 1988 to 1995.
In 2004, Fantagraphics published The Lizard of Oz, reviving Vaughn’s iconic Cheech Wizard—an enduring symbol in graffiti culture, especially in 1980s New York. Mark’s work, like his father’s, continues to inspire street artists globally.
