The Rising of the Moon explores the decades-long legacy of the Irish Civil War, documenting the resurgence of political and social tensions in post-Brexit North of Ireland.
"I was born in Belfast, the West part of the city, which is an area that mostly defines itself as Irish Republican. This part of the city goes beyond history and is still largely affected by the conflict today, one of the main factors being a large wall that divides Catholics and Protestants. This makes you aware of which side of the wall you are born on, so we all grow up with this awareness of where we come from. Many people from this part of the city refuse to use the term “Northern Ireland” and only refer to it as “The North of Ireland,” as many do not see the state as legitimate. Historically, the foundation of the state was designed to put the Catholic community at a significant disadvantage.”
