In the summer of 1989, Trevor Miller’s Trip City burst onto the literary scene as a groundbreaking novel unlike anything seen before in British fiction. Accompanied by a soundtrack from A Guy Called Gerald, it dove headfirst into the gritty world of London nightclubs, dance music, and the hallucinogenic drug sub-culture. Dubbed “the acid house novel,” it quickly became an underground literary landmark, evoking comparisons to Tom Wolfe’s The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test and drawing readers into its visceral, mind-bending narrative.

Trip City follows a nightclub promoter who returns to town, only to be swept into a dark and insidious world of designer drugs, psychosis, and murder. Blurring the lines between reality and hallucination, the novel channels the noir tones of French New Wave cinema and the dystopian aesthetic of Alphaville. With its intense, hallucinatory style, it chronicles a young man’s descent into a modern-day hell that looks unnervingly like London.

Since its publication, Trip City has been shrouded in scandal and mystery. Its original London book launch descended into chaos, resulting in a police shutdown. Attempts to adapt the book into a movie—by filmmakers ranging from the creators of Raiders of the Lost Ark to the director of Candyman—fell apart, adding to its cult status. Science fiction legend Brian Aldiss, the novel’s original publisher, captured its essence by likening it to Confessions of an Opium Eater but “smack up to date.”

Now, Trip City is back in a stunning new edition featuring an introduction by Trevor Miller, a foreword by Carl Loben (DJ Magazine), and a reissue of the iconic soundtrack by A Guy Called Gerald. For the first time, all five tracks are available on vinyl:
