The Valencian duo PichiAvo, formed by Pichi (Juan Antonio) and Avo (Álvaro), presents their first anthology to commemorate ten years of unstoppable artistic career.
A follow-up in the search for their own graphic and artistic identity in the public and private sphere; from their experiences in the execution of large-scale mural productions to the exhibition shows resulting from the long processes of work in the studio, experimenting with different techniques and supports, in this constant search for new languages, finishes and textures.
A book that will help us to understand not only the artistic and creative evolution that is deduced from a field of work that has as its starting point the spontaneous context of the public space, but also the unique look and vision of its creators, whom we will have the opportunity to see grow, page by page.
The evolution of style and appreciating this growth are two of the artists' main concerns. We will witness their creative process in the intimacy of their studio in Manises (Valencia, Spain), becoming privileged spectators of their routines and most intimate and personal side.
“Our style develops in the studio with the outdoor work in mind, as an exercise of translating the exterior into the interior. The studio keeps the mural work fresh and the murals keep the studio work vibrant, just as the graffiti keeps the classical part alive and the classical part brings the graffiti to life.
This international impact, particularly in Europe and North America, inevitably entails travel, movement, one of the main features, cyclically repeated, of their personal and professional lives. The routine is generally the same: leaving the creative epicentre – the studio – and heading for the location of a forthcoming mural, exhibition or collaboration, then going back home, to the starting point, until the cycle is repeated.
It is a double life, divided into two clearly distinct phases of experience: “indoors”and “outdoors”, private and public. Our Odyssey, in a clear allusion to Homer’s classic work and the journey of the hero, therefore seems a good image through which to understand this duality, this constant element of their lives. Moreover, it offers a unique opportunity to read and understand a line of work and a set of dynamics and experiences that normally, as viewers, we do not have the privilege of seeing.
