The collaboration between Royal Delft and the Schiffmacher Tattoo Heritage is a layered, deeply rooted and respectful ode to Delft Blue and the art of tattooing. A unique collaboration between two traditional crafts from an old world, brought across the seas from the east, and rich in culture, tradition and symbolism. Art forms that are applied only once by hand, with needle in the skin or with paintbrush on the baked clay. Tattoo artist and artist Henk Schiffmacher has not only made countless artworks in his life, he has also collected ten thousands of pieces from all over the world. Brought together through curiosity and out of love and respect for the tattoo as an intercultural form of art and communication method. With all the accompanying stories and knowledge.
Especially for the exposition Schiffmacher Royal Blue Tattoo, exclusively designed hand-painted objects designed by Henk Schiffmacher were created with Royal Delft master painters, in which the two worlds almost literally seem to touch and connect. Supplemented with items and stories from his extensive collection, this exhibition is a journey about skin and earthenware with the theme of faith, hope and love. This book complements the exposition.
