The Wa is an artist who constantly plays with common representations, challenging our perceptions through his performances. More often than not, he provides neither meaning nor context to his works, allowing them to exist within their environment, waiting—perhaps in vain—for recognition or reaction. His art seeps into the cracks, flourishes within them, or sometimes dissolves entirely.
Traces of graffiti are unmistakable in his work: playfulness, defiance, the city, the codes he bends to his will. This comes as no surprise, given that he started his artistic journey in the graffiti scene, particularly on trains. Yet, this influence is never overt. Explore his path and his work—work that, rather than redefining street art, compels us to question what we so often, rightly or wrongly, call "street art."
