This 520-page strong catalogue I versus I forms an archive of Japanese artist Haroshi’s work from his earliest pieces in 2003 up until the present day. The book is published in conjunction with the exhibition I versus I held at Tokyo-based Nanzuka Underground (July 10 – August 8, 2021).
Haroshi’s artworks – from sculptures to installations and images – are created by reusing parts from used skateboard decks. His unique artistic voice, incorporating contemporary street culture, social commentary, humor and genre-bending creativity, has earned him international acclaim and recognition.
“The past 18 years have been about putting all the time that we had into creating our works. In retrospect, it all happened so fast, but by no means did it feel like a short time.
Although we still have a long way to go, we are very pleased to be able to compile our works spanning from earliest to recent together in one book, which is something that we have always wanted to do.”
— from Haroshi’s foreword (included in Japanese and in English translation)
