In June 2021, Galerie Le Feuvre & Roze presented Modelflat, the first solo exhibition in Paris by French artist Matthieu Pommier, known as Matth Velvet. This exhibition showcased Velvet's distinctive blend of figurative painting and narrative exploration, featuring a series of works that delve into the interplay between human environments and the objects that define them.
Velvet's background in graffiti and applied arts informs his meticulous approach to composition and color.Transitioning from aerosol to acrylic and oil paints, he achieves a refined control over his palette, allowing for nuanced depictions of architectural forms and manufactured objects. His paintings often present scenes populated by anonymous figures, set against backdrops that evoke both the mundane and the surreal.
In Modelflat, Velvet invites viewers to interpret narratives woven through depictions of everyday settings—apartment interiors, urban landscapes, and communal spaces. These environments, while familiar, are imbued with a dreamlike quality, prompting reflections on the transient nature of human presence and the stories embedded within our constructed surroundings.
This exhibition marked a significant moment in Velvet's artistic journey, highlighting his ability to transform ordinary scenes into contemplative visual narratives that resonate with a broad audience.
