“For over 100 years, hobos in America have had the culture of marking freight trains with wax crayons with their very own symbols and signatures. In Europe wasn’t such a culture in the last century. The oldest dated chalk monikers I saw on european freight trains were never older than 2008. But the markings have become more and more common in recent years. A small scene has emerged.
MOBY is someone who stands out. Because he seems to be constantly roams through the freight train yards, adding new monikers or re-dating his old ones. It’s really exciting to see the changes in the drawing over the years. The influences on the various metal surfaces and the other influences of humans and nature, surprise me again and again.”
