It is today possible to give an answer to the question arisen in the Spraycan Art book in 1987 "who is the young man from The Habue bombing the 1 line in the 145th Street Tunnel with Vaughn Bodé nudes?". This book is the result of an intensive research made with determination and unveils the unique story of René Westhoff aka Disz, the first European writer able to paint on the NYC subway. A life that unfortunately ended too early in 2012, when Disz passed away at the age of 50. In the early 80s, Disz documented the graffiti culture and his own role in it. He also recorded everything in some unpublished handwritten diaries and notes, supported by photos and sketches and photos taken by himself. “It is an extraordinary book! Chronicling a remarkable person’s journey in the world of graffiti adds a lot to the history of the art.” James Prigoff “We never knew exactly what René did in New York, so it is great to see that he really wrote history.” Moeder van René
