Séverin Mouyengo dedicated 50 years of his life to fashion. He grew up in Bacongo, a popular neighborhood of Brazzaville, where he watched with fascination the parades of members of the Society of Ambiance-Makers and Elegant People. Initiated at the age of 15, his life has since been told through clothing.
When civil war reached the outskirts of Brazzaville in 1998, Séverin was forced to flee, burying his wardrobe. Eight months later, he found it devoured by insects and mold. With patience, he rebuilt his collection and organized his photo albums. This sparked the desire to write his memoirs and depict the spectacle of La Sape and its behind-the-scenes world.
